Fear is transient
Love everlasting
Don’t look for freedom
Where
Wisdom hides
For with
Knowledge
Comes
Self awareness
And deeper sorrow
No relief
For the labyrinth of the soul.
Grace is kept secret
Hidden in dungeons
Locked away
Borne and not shown
Received in tears
Given to those
Who carry on
Into the chambers of love.

Written for Poetry Jam,
So very true that we can’t look for freedom where wisdom hides. Wisdom brings knowledge, and with that knowledge comes the sorrow that sometimes we wish we did not have to know. Wisdom is a double-edged sword, I think. A blessing as well as a curse. As so often, Alan, your words share a unique perspective and make the reader think deeply.
Thank you Mary, that really captures what i was aiming at.
I agree with Mary, we learn a lot of unpleasant things as well as things which are beneficial. I have often thought about the many things I wish I didn’t know but that is part of growth. Wonderful job on this poem
Yes… love is the key indeed.
nice…very good alan….some really great lines you hooked me from the beginning…grace is often found in our tough lessons…and is never too far away even in the darkest night…Don’t look for freedom Where Wisdom hides…is def a fav line…
Thought you might appreciate thoughts from the ground up on the matter of carrying on. Let me know what you think: http://wileyschmidt.com/2013/04/22/pawprints-in-the-sand/
A labyrinthine soul…wow…
Scary thoughts Alan, especially about self knowledge given the position of torturer. Or did I read that wrong? γνῶθι σεαυτόν, has always worried me a little. Can we be totally honest about ourselves? Even to ourself?
A sober reflection. We do need it at times…*smiles.

Your poem .. and Aprille’s comment … led me to thoughts about honesty and our ability to dig deep, face the reflections we see in our mirrors. Very nice ….
WOW! I love this. Especially “given to those who carry on into the chambers of love.” Wonderful writing!
Thank you all for your comments, i am sorry if it came over a bit scary that was not the intention it was more the hidden worries that plague us when we elevate knowledge above grace and love. As it was once written, “Now abide faith, hope and love: But the greatest of these is love.”
Your words give lots to think about Alan. And yes wisdom and knowledge are multifaceted things. And the secret is to carry on!
Life is complex. In the end we all die and most of us miss the show !
Love can bring so much into one’s life!
Fear is transient and love everlastng. So true. And Grace given when we surrender to love. Loved it.
Sometimes it’s so hard to carry on toward those chambers, though … excellent piece to contemplate, friend!
