Let me sit
Feel the stillness
In the silence
Let the memory of our youth
And your presence
Calm and perfect
Fill this ache of isolation
Remembering summer
Strawberry days
Thick caramel conversations
Where you would speak your mind
Clear and true
In words of wisdom
And a whisper of kindness
For your smiling grace
Opened the mystery of faith.

This is a very moving and poignant poem, Alan. The closeness of a good childhood friend is wonderful to reflect on. I wish I knew more of the story…but your depthful words move me.
I think you are lucky if this relationship is yours to “calm and perfect” a lonelier time. I like the way you show snippets of feeling and action; and I love the soothing mood and rhythm of the poem. Form =Content.
that makes them a special place in your life…the one that opened the door to what would be eternal life….its good to think back on them…
strawberry days and caramel conversations is such a beautiful image..all the joy of youth and summer encapsulated in colour and favour…how quickly that can be lost..although maybe forever remembered
Jae Rose has captured my sentiments exactly…those two lines engage the senses and definitely capture the colors and flavors of young friendship so well!
Ah, soothing to sit there with you both. It would be a shoulders down moment to listen and observe that kind of friendship togetherness.
Am I wrong or have you changed your decor back again?
For your smiling grace
Opened the mystery of faith.
Great ending Alan! Forever sharing the faith and togetherness would bring back great memories! A Good write!

Very beautiful, Alan. I, too, loved the strawberries and caramel conversation….very evocative.
How poignant this was for me as I remembered back so many years when I enjoyed such a friendship and yearn for that understanding even now.
