Unity

I came to the razor’s edge

I felt the softness of your breath

Swirling. ebbing, tide,

Beyond blackness

Rivers of violent creation

This velvet ice of silent streets.

I came to offer tears of unity

In shafts of glowing light

Before exposed desire

Shards of shadows

Rippling mirrors of silver eyes

Sinking deep into black satin sheets.

I came to pay

Forgive me

And as the rhythm of rain

Pulsed tumbling expectations

For wisdom was kept for another day

When we embraced secret dreams.

  1. wow this is etched with sound, feeling and expectation. Grasp for those moments while we can.

  3. Sherry Marr says:

This feels like a healing moment, and the imagery is intense and riveting…..the rivers of violent creation, the ice of silent streets. Offering tears of unity sounds like a gift to both giver and recipient. A deep piece, Alan, so well written.

  4. I especially loved the last paragraph. Great words 🙂

  5. Sumana Roy says:

images like razor’s edge, rivers of violent creation, icy silence and tears of unity,& wisdom at bay do make union a distant dream….

  6. Mary says:

It seems that you were offering forgiveness or wishing for forgiveness – different ways of achieving unity once again. Black satin sheets is a bit of an ominous image to me.

  7. There is an intensity to the pace of your verse… vivid and wondrous. Well-penned.

  9. So powerful and provocative. You dance on the edge and bring unity full circle again. Beautiful!

  10. X says:

There is a humility in coming to ask forgiveness and making ammends, that def can open the door to healing, and much greater unity.

  11. glmeisner says:

    Very sensual and vivid.

Truly riveting…this part gives every man the reasons to feel alive…humbling experience. Well done…

  13. Jae Rose says:

I was captivated by the first line..sometimes we need to wait..to breathe and soften the edges…and then come together again..

  14. rosross says:

    Lovely. Soulful.

  15. Alan,

It felt like a confession, followed by the forgiveness and healing. A fine unity of peace within self…
